French Ramoneur Short Gown
1790s

Stunning design and colours765. Probably French. The fabric has been handblock printed with the yellows and blues pencilled in by hand. By superimposing them green was produced. The rust and ochre colours were popular at this time with the discover of Pompeian wall paintings. I wonder if this was for maternity. The chequered tape could be used for a fastening, when the mother was feeding. The jacket would have been worn by a working women over a skirt.
