I don't normally buy baby gowns, but this and the following example were so delicious I could'nt resist them. The quality of the embroidery and detail is extraordinary. It is extraordinary to be able to recognise the flowers depicted. I think the very fine muslin ground is most probably Indian.
From the collection of Annette H Porteous and featured in her book My Collection of Antique Baby Gowns.
Of finest muslin, the shallow bodice embroidered in white cotton with a central spray of seaweed flanked by two sprays of roses, carnations and a trumpet type flower, the short sleeves with similar flower spray, both edged with hand made Bucks? lace, very long skirt with two side flaps similarly embroidered with ten flower sprays, edged with similar lace, the back with original silk ribbon ties,
Bodice front 1 m.
Excellent.
