Unusual to find a pair of shoes for a young woman. Probably made from Spitalfields silk brocade in a Bizarre design of the 1715-20, with the shoes being made in the mid century. You can see how the precious silk was joined in places and every scrap used.
The golden yellow silk woven with architectural shapes in silver wrapped silk, green and touches of pale pink silk, the bindings in mid green woven silk ribbon, latchet fastenings with eyelet holes and similar ribbon ties, the heels in a green and off white brocade, white leather rand, the inside soles of leather and with natural linen linings, the soles of leather (straights), all hand sewn.
Soles 6 1/2 in; 16 cm
The heel 1 1/4 in; 3 cm high
The toes are worn revealing the leather. The white rands are stained. You will see the shoes were well worn by looking at the soles.
