Unusual being a child's cot quilt. The rich magenta pink silk and the hand painted chintz from the Coromandel coast backing are both Indian, but the batting is Dutch wool. The quilt was stitched in The Netherlands. This would be great to copy or for a collector.
Of magenta silk backed with a hand painted Indian cotton, all quilted with linen thread, the centre with a cornucopia with a variety of flowers, including tulips and roses, a deep border with a traiiing flower meander, including jonquils (daffodils) pinks (carnatiions), the reverse of printed cotton in red and green/blue on a yellowing ground.
3ft 6in x 3ft 4 in; 1.05 x 1.01m
There are several holes where you can see the batting. The worst is 3 x 2 cm. The top edge has a split 6 in; 15 cm, partially open. There are a couple of darkish marks 4 x1.5 cm and a few more much smaller. The back has some large stains. Do ask for more photos.
