These two darning samplers were found together in the same frame. This one is of course much earlier.
The centre embroidered in ivory silks with a crown above P S and the date 1760, surrounded by twelve different darns, using crimson, pink, blue, gold, brown, green and ivory silks, all on a linen ground.
Each darn 2 1/2 in; 6 cm sq. One 3 1/2 x 2 3/4 in; 8 x 7 cm.
20 x 15 in; 50 x 38 cm.
The top of the linen has been turned over and is a slightly darker colour. Elsewhere the linen has slightly changed colour. There are some foxing marks here and there and the odd small slight darker mark.
