Italian Hanging/Runner

This highly decorative length in wonderful colours would look marvellous as a hanging or as a runner on a piece of furniture.

Description

Large flowers and leaves flanking a central leaf motif, with gold, green and grey silks, some brocades, appliqué and embroidered in yellow, blue, caramel and taupe floss silks, some flowers with French knot centres, outlined in thin braid, applied to a red velvet ground, the edges with a wide woven gold braid, lined in linen.

Condition

Some of the embroidery has worn to reveal the silks below, but this enhances its age - after all it is late 17th century!
