Lovely dress in the iconic Hera designed by Dr Christopher Dresser (1834-1904), was registered as a woven silk in 1876 by the manufacturer William Fry of Dublin. It first appears in 1887 in Liberty records. Hera was a Greek goddess, associated with a peacocks, whose feathers were a fashionable Aesthetic Movement motif during the last quarter of the 19th century. The right colour petticoat would really enhance the design and colours. We can make one for you.
The silk georgette with peacock feather design in soft turquoise, blue and two shades of soft orange, the bodice with soft pleats from shoulder to lower waist seam and falling soft fabric either side of nine blue square buttons, a dropped waist and wide band below, full bias cut skirt, long sleeves with a fabric fall to the back of the lower sleeves.
There are a few stains to the front skirt, but hardly noticeable with the busy design and folds in the fabric.
