Wonderfully stylish and stunning piece. Unusual having painted details. Pure Arts and Crafts piece with peacocks and sunflowers.
A pair of peacocks facing each other, their bodies painted in mid blue on the natural linen ground and with floss silk embroidery, their tales faned out to display blue and green feathers, the birds beside three sunflowers embroidered with mauve centre with pale yellow petals, all in floss silks, the top and bottom borders with peacock feather eyes, painted and embroidered.
21 in; 54 cm square.
Now with a modern black frame.
A few light water markings to the top left hand corner, which are hardly noticeable.
