Extremely rare. Bought from a Norfolk, UK auction. Perhaps it was woven in that county. This would be good for display in a historic house or for weavers of 18th century cloths to copy.
hand woven cream wool, each end with two blue stripes, one end with 1800 embroidered in pink eyelet stitch, the other with the embroideress initials MS and then another S below, the four corners with remnants of embroidered wool flower sprays in ochre, yellow and white, 6ft 10 in x 5ft 7 in or 2.09 x 1.70 m, weighs 990 gm
Very damaged as you should be able to see. Ask for more photos. The MS edge has a 2 1/2 in or 6 cm tear. The centre is very holey and there is a large feint brown stain approx 6 x 5 in.
he texture is wonderfully crunchy. Of interest to weavers of reproduction cloths.
