Beautiful design and colours. I think this has to have been designed by Anna Maria Garthwaite. This is the best length A.
Diagonal sprays of mauve pinks (carnations) with two types of red buds, all on the same stem, crossed with a single spray of mauve and red polyanthus? and another of blue campion, interspersed with sprays of pink roses, polyanthus and blue flowers, all in shades of blue, red, pink, mauve, puce, ochre, yellow and ivory silks on cream silk satin ground.
A - 50 x 19 1/2 in; 1.27 x 50 cm. 1 1/2 repeats
As I hope you can see from the photos, all lengths have folds, stitching holes where fabric was made into a dress at a later date. More photos if you need them.
A - You will see there are vertical folds for two long darts to the top of this piece, each 12 in; 30 cm from top. Stitching holes can be seen. 4 in;10 cm from bottom there are a row of sewing holes where the hem was turned up.
Silk Designs of the Eighteenth Century Natalie Rothstein p 208, no 240. Similarities with the sprays of flowers with three species, crossed by a single spray.
The overall look is similar to no 235 page 205 in above book. It also appears to have green selvedge lines.
