Reputed to be from Speke Hall, Liverpool now a National Trust property.
The embroidery is very fine and there are some lovely details. If unpicked from the modernish background cotton sateen, and re applied to a twill weave linen, would look specatacular. We can do this for you, but perhaps any keen embroiderers would like to have a go themselves. The embroidery has been loosely sewn down so easy to unpick.
English crewel wool work with a meandering tree trunk emerging from a grassy hillock, with a variety of flowers and three birds amongst acanthus leaves, all in shades of blue, green, brown, red, orange and taupe, worked with a tambour and with French knots.
Embroidery 7ft; 2.14 m drop. 2ft 4 in; 71 cm wide
Very very good. No fading or real damage.
