Fine quality and very rare, despite the condition. I have only had one under waistcoat in the past.
A slightly raised neckline, front panels of pale blue/green woven wool the edges and facings woven with gold coloured oak leaves and medals containing a portrait. attached to a white cotton base, the back with ties.
Back collar to hem 16 in; 40 cm
Front top collar to whie pointed fron hem 20 in 50 cm
Not in good condition as you will see. The lovely woven wool ground has moth damage.
A History of Men's Fashions by Farid Chenoune p 46 which illustrates the portrait by Sophie Rude of the actor Wolf, called Bernard 1819-1823 wearing a red under waistcoat. It notes inner vests were fashionable during the French Restoration.
