Unusual front closure, the cross over section forming a double breasted closure, but with a and the central button at the base of the closure. This would have been a very expensive waistcoat.
With small stand collar, embroidered in green and tan twisted silks with a leafy meander, the front with similar embroidered panels , together with silver wire leaves, self covered and embroidered buttons, the closure panels, with three fake buttonholes, widening to form a double breasted closure, the base with an extra central button, the pockets and area below, similarly worked, the foreparts with delicate double row of dots and small vs, all on a creamy satin ground, the back of cotton, the side panels with an extra panel of linen (see Condiiton report below).
Shoulder to hem 27 in; 70 cm
Chest 40 in; 1.02 m
The sides have an extra linen panel, which must have been when the gentleman grew larger or was worn by another person. The front is in very good condition, with just one small pin head hole near a lower pocket. The cream silk is slightly grubby to the front button area, where it would have been constantly touched. The back is quite grubby as you should be able to see.
