The velvet strip on the inside leg fastening is presumably to stop chaffing. I believe the lining cotton is called Holland. The small covered waistcoat buttons are repeated on the legs. I thought the little slanting pocket on waistcoat unusual.
Black wool facecloth with stand collar, seven small grosgrain ribbed buttons, small slanting pockets at chest level, two straight pockets with curved flaps, the back of grosgrain ribbed silk wit h two silk ribbon ties (original), lined with silk faille to the inside opening and hem, caramel coloured twill weave cotton,
The Breeches with fall front, black button fastenings to the waist band and front opening, the waistband with a watch pocket slit and a pocket in the lining, plus two large cotton pockets, the lower legs with four black satin covered small buttons and buttonholes, the inside lower legs with a velvet strip.
Waistcoat approximately 36 in; 92 cm underarm.
Breeches waist 37 in; 94 cm
Both in excellent condition. The waistcoat has a slight underarm mark, but this does not come through to the surface. For once all the buttons are there. One is a little worn exposing the bone button below. One little pinhead moth hole to the breeches front.
