Italian Ophrey Fragment
Late 15/early 16th c

This rare piece was probably woven in Florence. Very difficult to photograph.


Cataloguing

A seated saint with a creature on his lap attended by a bird, the backgrond of scrolling leafy stems and leaves, the side borders with scrolling stems and flowers, woven in a damask pattern using gold wrapped thread on yellow silk and linen.



16 x 9 in; 40 x 23 cm selvedge to selvedge.

Good.
