Italian Silk Brocatelle
16th c

This furnishing fabric was possibly woven in Florence. It is very sumptous and attractive. The gold wrapped threads really glow. Would look great framed. Would also look good as a decorative cushion, but you would not be able to rest against it!

Cataloguing

The wrapped gold thread weft woven with red silk warp, symmetrical scrolled pattern of stylised leaves and stems. 9 x 11 1/2 in; 22 x 29 cm.

Condition

Very good. There is overall slight discolouration to the gold, as you will see from the very top of the fragment, which is unfaded, presumably because the piece was framed.
