Baby Gown
1817

I don't normally buy baby gowns, but this and the following example were so delicious I could'nt resist them. The quality of the embroidery and detail is extraordinary.

From the collection of Annette H Porteous and featured in her book My Collection of Antique Baby Gowns.

Cataloguing

With embroidered leaf sprays on cotton above and below a hand made lace meander across the shallow bodice, with small French knot edging, the short sleeves similarly worked, vandyked and drawnwork edges, the skirt front with ten very fine tucks to the curving side panels, edged with vandyked and drawnwork edges, the lower skirt with a horizontal doub le layer of drawnwork and embroidery, the hem similar to the curving sides of the skirt, the back with two draw cord fastenings.

Bodice front 32 in; 80 cm.

Condition

The back has a little L shaped tear 1 x 1 cm. This could be supported on the inside quite easily. We can do this for you.
