Chinese Export Embroidery
Late 18th c
A very unusual and amazing colour, which was probably a special order. Imagine a dress. This type of luxurious embroidery was exported to Europe in lengths, eagerly bought by the wealthy and made up into gowns.
Cataloguing
The deep navy silk satin embroidered with two repeats of ivory twisted silks in a trailing flower and leaf design spreading across the width of the fabric, with pinks (carnations), roses, lillies and other small flowers.
39 x 29 in; 1m x 74 cm yellow selvedges
Condition
Very very good, excelelnt in fact. Unpicked from a dress made up in the 20th century so there are pin holes in the selvedges.
