Baby Jacket
Early 19th c
A charming Borsikke from Marken, The Netherlands with two different lovely French printed cottons in delicious colours. There is a piece of Turkey Red to the front of the jacket. My guess is this area wore, with the baby dribbling and dropping food to the front, so it was replaced at a later date with this late 19th c piece. Likewise the brown neck edging is right, but the red and white edging to the lower part could have been replaced in the later 19th c. One can see on small areas the French hand block print was originally glazed.
