Norwich Camleteen Skirt
1760/1850's
An 18th century skirt, re made in the mid 19th century when the hem wool braid dust protector was added. Ideal for a New England re-enactor to wear!
Cataloguing
of striped worsted camleteen made up of seven widths of fabric, each 15 in or 38 cm (selvedge to selvedge), gathered into a brown tape waistband with large brass hook and eye, the hem with a narrow wool protector, waist 22 in or 28 cm; length 3ft 3 in or 98 cm.
Condition
The fabric is remarkably crisp and fresh. Most panels have some moth holes but these can only be seen when the skirt is held to the light.
