Trained Indian Muslin Gown
1800

A very charming and simple gown made from incredibly fine Indian muslin, probably grom the Dacca, now Dhaka, capital fo Bangladesh.   I would say the whitework embroidery was hand made, but not Indian. The muslin would have been sent from India and made up here.

Cataloguing

The bodice with low original fine corded drawstring neck, horizontal seams to shoulders, darts, the high waist with original tape drawstring, the back with horizontal embroidered inserts edged with drawn threadwork, similar inserts from back of sleeve to waist, back opening, short sleeves set low, the skirt with two gores either side and with a pocket slit to the right hand side, the back tightly gathered, long train,

High waist 26 in/67 cm; Bust 32 in/81 cm; Shoulder to front 4ft 1 in/1.25 m.  Back shoulder to end train 5 ft 2 in/1.6 m

Condition

Very very good. Considering how delicate the muslin is, in remarkable condition. There is some very light and slight marks to the bodice front and one to the sleeve. Also a little to the front just below the waist.

The back embroidery at the shoulders also has very very slight light brownish marks. The back right bodice has come slightly away from the skirt at the waist. This just needs a few stitches.  There is an old, probably original darn at the back 2 x 1 in/5 x 3 cm but not the whole area. The train has a few slightly darker very small marks.
