Phyllis Barron Wool Shawl
1930s
This is most unusual in that it is printed on fine wool. It was bought from architect Detmar Blow's house Hilles, Harescombe, Gloucestershire. When Phyllis Barron and Dorothy Larcher won the commission to furnish the interior rooms of Girton College's new wing Woodlands Court in 1931, Blow had given them a glowing reference. B & L were introduced to the Hugh 'Bendor' Grosvenor, the 2nd Duke of Westminster by Blow, and were given a commission to furnish his yacht The Flying Cloud. The Duke's lover, Coco Chanel, purchased cushions for her garden furniture.
I feel this was a reject piece. Some of the ink is too thick.
