
Spitalfields Damask Silk Stole

Marvellous and unusual. Drawloom woven silk. Different from the deep end bordered silk stoles which were so popular in the early 19th century. Spitalfields is in East London.
Cataloguing
The gold background woven with a silvery shaded silk, each end with a large palmette sporting upright flowers and leaves, the borders with a scalloped edge containing small sprays of flowers and leaves, the central field with bands of self colour but where the twill weave lies in opposite direction, short fringe.
4ft 2 in x 18 in; 1.27 x 46 cm.
Condition
Very very good. A small wear to the centre field.
