Morris Windrush
1917
Just a fragment of this lovely design. This hand block printed cotton was used in the drawing room of Kelmscott House, Hammersmith, London, as a 'summer change'. May Morris claims this was 'named in memory of pleasant summer journeys along the Windrush valley', an area of West Oxfordshire.
It was originally registered in 1883, but the design of the writing on the selvedge tells us this fabric was printed 1877-1917. I would say this was typical colouring in the Edwardian period. Lovely colours.
